Webinar: Access High Resolution Satellite Data to Tackle Tropical Deforestation - Recording available

The webinar “Access High Resolution Satellite Data to Tackle Tropical Deforestation: An introduction to the NICFI data program” was held on 29 March, 16:00-17:00 hrs CET.

The GEO Secretariat teamed up with Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) and their partners Planet and Airbus to convene this webinar on Norway’s International Climate & Forests Initiative (NICFI) satellite data procurement over the tropical forest regions. This data program provides unprecedented access to high resolution satellite data at a scale not seen before, removing the barriers of licensing and cost that traditionally prohibited many users.

By making high resolution, analysis-ready mosaics of the world’s tropics freely available to anyone anywhere, it allows for improved reporting, monitoring of small changes and more detailed baseline data. At the same time also enabling increased transparency, accountability in the tropics against the challenge of deforestation and promotion of conservation in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

This webinar introduced the NICFI data program and showcased three innovative use cases from Amazon Conservation, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and NASA/SERVIR.
