Updated Deadline Compliance for No-Cost Extension Requests
Principal Investigators (PIs) must ensure submitting requests for No-Cost Extension (NCE) prior to the end of the project's period of performance (POP). It is crucial to adhere to this rule to prevent NCE requests from being denied. Failure to do so can lead to non-compliance issues, as demonstrated by a recent denial from the NSSC Grants Activities Branch. Since January 2024, the NSSC has started rejecting grantee requests for No-Cost Extensions (NCEs) for a variety of reasons. For example, requests submitted before the end of an award but less than 10 days before the end of the period of performance (POP) are being rejected. PIs must be vigilant in submitting NCE requests well in advance to avoid denial and ensure compliance with the updated guidelines.
